Rationale and context of the assignment:

The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) within the Division of Communication comprises Web, Social Media and Multimedia teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization. Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, DSS draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability.

DSS seeks to hire a consultant (Digital Video Producer) to work in the Social Media and Engagement Team, responsible for creating and crafting compelling digital content, with a particular focus on video, which engages audiences in a dynamic, interactive and meaningful way and sparks conversations around issues related to UNICEF’s mandate.

She/he will play a key role in managing UNICEF’s global presence on a wide range of social media platforms, and lead on the day to day management of our Facebook video output and our presence on YouTube, as well as helping guide wider digital editorial processes. They will also support – and in some cases lead on – the creation and coordination of social media strategies and campaigns, digital marketing, monitoring and analysis, and moderation of platforms. Working under the supervision of the Digital Communications Specialist in the close knit Social Media and Engagement team, the Digital Producer will be expected to regularly step up and drive projects, video and otherwise, and will serve as one of UNICEF’s key representatives in its global digital outreach.

Responsibilities:

  • Create compelling social media content for digital platforms and systematically grow UNICEF’s digital community and deepen engagement across all platforms.
  • Coordinate the creation of engaging video content which performs well on various social media channels
  • Lead on the day to day management of our Facebook video output
  • Manage UNICEF’s presence on YouTube on a day to day basis, continually optimising the channel and increasing subscribers
  • Regularly come up with ideas for engaging social media content and campaigns, working with relevant colleagues to assess feasibility and create.
  • Actively participate in editorial meetings, helping guide digital editorial processes.
  • Help develop and implement informed, cross-platform social media and digital marketing strategies and support management to make informed decisions regarding digital strategy.
  • Work closely with the Digital Marketing and Engagement Specialist on the effective marketing and seeding of video content.
  • Monitor and moderate social media channels, flagging risk and opportunities to deepen engagement.
  • Identify new digital tools and best practices and how these can be most effectively applied to deepen engagement with supporters.
  • Keep track of efforts and activities of other UN agencies, nonprofits and competitors.
  • Work with the Section’s M&E consultant and the Planning team to measure and report on social media efforts.
  • Coordinate social media projects and campaigns as required, working closely with relevant communications colleagues, other teams, and offices worldwide to develop joint digital initiatives.
  • Liaise and work with graphic designers and agencies as needed, to produce visuals, infographics and apps for digital campaigns.
  • Support other teams in HQ and offices worldwide on their day to day social media efforts and develop guidance documents and lead trainings when required.
  • Participate in and represent the team at relevant conferences and events.
  • Deputise for the Digital Communications Specialist when they are on annual leave.
  • Upload social materials as needed to internal content sharing platform WeShare

Qualifications or specialized knowledge/ experience required:

  • 4+ years experience working on social media, digital marketing or editorial for an NGO, global company or publishing outlet.
  • Strong track record of success in the creation of engaging video content, including Facebook video
  • Experience of optimising YouTube channels
  • Experience in developing and implementing social media or digital marketing strategies.
  • Proven ability to write flawless copy on tight deadlines.
  • Proven copy editing skills.
  • Adept at using a wide range of social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest.
  • Experience of blogging and knowledge of best practices.
  • Knowledge of social media monitoring technology and can use social media measurement and listening tools such as Radian6, Gorkana, Social Bakers, Crowdbooster.
  • Experience in reporting on quantitative and qualitative analytics.
  • Proven ability to present and communicate new projects to a varied audience.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities within specified timeframes.
  • Proven skills in communication, networking, strategic thinking, advocacy, negotiation, and ability to relate to a young audience.
  • Strong awareness of social media communication behaviours in developing regions/countries.
  • Consistently achieves high-level results, managing and delivering projects on-time.
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute ideas as well as transfer knowledge and skills.
  • Project management experience/qualifications a plus. Experience of working with agencies also desirable.
  • Understanding of digital fundraising strategies a plus.
  • Experience of capacity building and training a plus.
  • Awareness of best practices in user experience and design.
  • Experience in working for the UN, UNICEF or with International NGOs or global organisations a plus.
  • Must have excellent command of English (native speaker preferred). Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French a plus.
  • Bachelor Degree, ideally in social science, international affairs, marketing or communication. Masters preferred but not essential.
