PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Shelter Assistant is collaborative supporter and a member of shelter team to follow and monitor implementation progress of site shelter activities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Shelter Field Engineer conduct daily / weekly / monthly site visits and monitor shelter rehabilitation works;
Manage on site contractors and report daily to the Shelter Field Engineer;
Assist in drafting layouts and Bill of Quantity (BoQ) for sites which will be rehabilitated;
Support in cost estimation for rehabilitation works and proposal design;
Assist Field engineer in provision of technical guidance for shelter rehabilitation / construction activities.
Assist in provision of technical guidance and supervision taking into account technical standards (Sphere standards)
Assist in conducting the Comprehensive Shelter Needs Assessments in the field in a timely manner and in accordance with instructions from supervisor.
Perform other assignments as foreseen by Shelter Field Engineer
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The following knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training:
Educational background in civil and/or architecture engineering.
Experience in the Human Services / related to shelter projects.
Strong communication, inter-personal skills, and diplomacy;
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
Ability to draft detailed and accurate reports in a timely manner;
Highly motivated and with a desire to work with local communities;
Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people;
Working knowledge of computers using AutoCad, MS Word and Excel among other packages. Communicate effectively through email and use of internet.
