Purpose of the Position
This is a Generic Vacancy Announcement for various posts in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Region.
The incumbent is accountable for the formulation, design, implementation, and monitoring of Child Protection programme(s), and contributes toward the effectiveness of the overall programme management and delivery and the achievement of programme goals. In doing so, the child protection specialist is guided by UNICEF child protection strategy (2008) that defines the organization’s contribution to children’s right to protection from violence, UNICEF Strategic Plan (2014-2017), Child Protection Working Group Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Action and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Key Expected Results
Participate in effective programme planning, development and management through timely sectoral analysis, provision of quality technical input and support to the Situation Analysis, and collaboration on its periodic update.
Promote UNICEF's global goals through advocacy and dialogue with stakeholders responsible for child protection at local, district, provincial and national levels - in particular social welfare/protection and justice.
Enhance knowledge management by drafting/editing/finalizing high quality Child Protection sectoral programme documents and reports, sharing good practices and lessons learned, and exchanging knowledge and information.
Reinforce the coherence, synergy and quality of the rights-based Child Protection programme through results-based management and provision of relevant gender and sex-aggregated data.
Oversee all technical aspects of the Sectoral work plan and activities, including formulation, implementation, and monitoring, ensuring alignment with defined programme strategies and approaches.
Carry out programme delivery, evaluation and reporting efficiently, rigorously and transparently, ensuring compliance with established guidelines and procedures.
Ensure proper and timely UNICEF and Government accountability regarding supply and non-supply assistance, as well as disbursement of programme funds for the Child Protection sector.
Achieve effective communication and networking through partnership and collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders, including government technical departments, donors, development partners, and NGO partners.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Education
- Advanced university degree, preferably in the social sciences, law or other relevant field e.g. Social Work, Social Welfare, child justice or human rights
- A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
- Eight years of relevant professional work experience in developing and managing Child Protection programmes at national/international levels.
- International Work experience / developing country experience required, preferably in the Middle East & North Africa Region.
- Background/familiarity with Emergency situations considered an asset.
Language Proficiency
- Fluency in English required, good knowledge of Arabic highly desirable, French is an asset.
