Job Description:

World Vision Canada is looking for a savvy Communications Officer.

You would be part of a public relations team that cares about what they do, works hard and thinks creatively about engaging Canadians across the country. In lending your media expertise to the team, you can make a meaningful difference for some of the most vulnerable children on the planet.

In this role, you would:

Engage Canadian media: Build and maintain rapport with a broad spectrum of Canadian journalists and position World Vision as a dependable source of humanitarian, child advocacy and development expertise.

Increase our media IQ: Regularly monitor and evaluate relevant media to identify breaking news, emerging trends and hot topics to identify opportunities for World Vision to increase its share of voice on essential issues at key moments.

Create: Use excellent communication skills to craft compelling story ideas which leverage World Vision resources including field reports, research, video and pictures to generate media coverage.

Collaborate: Work collaboratively with World Vision colleagues across Canada and around the world to promote timely, accurate and appropriate media engagement.

Execute: Plan, develop and implement media relations strategies to bolster World Vision’s reputation as a child-focused, humanitarian, development and advocacy organization during both rapid onset and slow-burn emergencies and during child advocacy developments.

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years of media/communications/public relations experience, preferably within a breaking news environment

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian media landscape and industry trends

  • Comfort developing and delivering story pitches to traditional, social and niche media

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain a broad variety of internal and external relationships

  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple, simultaneous expectations under tight deadlines

  • Thorough knowledge of social media tools and how to use them effectively

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills

  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in journalism, PR, communications or marketing

  • Emergency, child advocacy, international development experience are assets
